♥MyGlam | July 2012 Pool Party MOTD & NOTD Tutorial with Bonus: Pool Bag, Outfit & Party♥

This past sunday, we were invited to a fun pool party with a few close friends.

Ever since I got my July MyGlam bag, I wanted to do a makeup look but couldn't think of what to do. This pool party was the perfect excuse!

I don't know about you, but even if I know I'm going to the beach or the pool, I still like to have a little bit of makeup. I know that once I'm in the water, it won't matter anymore, but if you're like me, you're probably socializing a bit before you strip down into your swim wear and hop in the water. That being said, I don't want to show up pale-face in the bright sun. ;)

So, here is my tutorial on my pool party make up look and nails! I've even included some extras, to include my outfit and what I bring with me to the pool.... and a few clips of the group pool side!!! Hope you enjoy!!

Haul and Announcement: Old Navy and Walgreens + Future Giveaway

Hey guys!!!

So... I didn't really buy a lot from each store, but I did buy enough that I wanted to do a quick haul.

Haul and Future Giveaway Announcement

Old Navy

It's been quite some time since I've purchased clothing from Old Navy. I don't shop here that often. I got a pair of khaki's here about a year ago, and that was about it. They have cute stuff and all, but I have a hard time fitting in their clothes. If I find something that fits my chest, it doesn't fit my waist, and vice-versa, so a lot of their stuff doesn't accommodate curvier figures.
However, I wanted to give them another shot, so here is what I ended up buying....

Shopping List

  • Women's Ruffle-Trim Tank - Yellow (small)
  • Women's Ruffle-Trim Tank - Black Dots (small)
  • Women's Ruffle-Trim Tank - Blue Stripe (small)
  • Women's Jersey-Stretch Tank - Bright White (small)
  • Women's Jersey-Stretch Tank - Heather Charcoal (small)
  • Women's Embellished Flip-Flops (6)

Walgreens

If you saw my latest Walgreens haul, I got a bag of blow pops. Yeah, I got more! Lol. Love blow pops. I have a really bad sweet tooth.
Anyway, off topic, again, as usual... this time I went for one reason only....
$0.99 Sinful Polish
If you follow me on Instagram, you already saw the pic below, but here is a list with their names.

Shopping List

*Nail polishes are listed in order of the picture, from left to right, top to bottom

Giveaway Info

So... long story short... This giveaway is to celebrate you guys! If it weren't for you subscribers, I wouldn't be doing this every week.

I originally filmed this video on thursday when I was at 288. On Facebook, I posted this morning (Friday), my 300 subbie milestone, so obviously, I've met 1 of 2 requirements for the giveaway.

COME ON HAUTELOOK... HURRY IT UP!!!

Hehe.

So yes, the video kind of doesn't make sense because I'm talking as if it hadn't happened yet, but that's ok. I didn't want to redo the video since it captured so much of my excitement.

Anywho, I mentioned the qualifications.... BUT, they are irrelevant at this point until the giveaway video is actually posted, so I am going to hold off on posting the qualifications as I don't want to confuse you guys.

However, if you want, you will need to "like" my Facebook as one of the qualifications, so if you want to go ahead and do that, please feel free to do so! I love having new followers. I post everything related to my blog and YT on there.

Hope you guys enjoyed this video, and are just as excited about the giveaway as I am.

Also, I'll give you a hint.... the prize is makeup related!

How I Box Dye My Hair

Ever since I moved to Florida, I have been dyeing my own hair. Before, I never really dyed my hair, I only highlighted, and I would get my hair professionally highlighted, but being here, I haven't found anyone that I find 'affordable', and so I've just been dyeing.

Of course, if I choose to do highlights again, I'd get it done professionally. I don't feel comfortable doing my own highlights. I've tried it once and did not like it. :(

Honestly, I don't do anything special, I just follow the provided instructions. The only thing that might be different is how I section my hair and how I clean up afterwards, using a make up remover wipe.

Hope this helps!

Andrea, I couldn't be more indebted! Your shout out made this all possible and I appreciate it so much!

I was already planning a giveaway for my 100th subscriber, but it went from 89 to 200 in less than 12 hours. I didn't even get a chance to take a screen shot at 100, you guys broke through the numbers so quickly.

As soon as I get the prize (already ordered from HauteLook), I will do a new eye look tutorial and the giveaway, so stay tuned!

Thanks again guys!!!

♥Nail Tutorial | Circus Yellow and Navy Petal Water Marble♥

Ever since I got my July MyGlam Bag, I really wanted to do a nail tutorial using the Circus nail polish I got in my bag. I was so excited to see that it was a bright color that I didn't have.... yellow! I've been looking into different yellow polishes, since I keep seeing reviews that many of them are sheer and not very opaque. Was so stoked to see that this was opaque in one coat! How fantastic is that?!

Anyway, I didn't want to just do a straight yellow design. But I really wanted to feature it. So, I decided on a water marble. Immediately I thought BLUE! I originally tried it with a royal blue, but my China Glaze royal blue color formula is really poor for water marbles, so I went with my navy polish from the New Black horizon collection that I got a while back.

Overall, the petal design came out as I had hoped, but the navy polish is a bit sparkly and caused a bit of speckling in the yellow polish. Either way, I love the colors. Hope you guys like it too! Thanks again MyGlam and Circus by Andrea's Choice, LOVE THE POLISH!!!

Hope you enjoy!

    Hot Oil Hair Challenge

MyGlam / Josie Maran Hot Oil Hair Challenge

If you guys follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you saw that I posted a video last night, but didn't post a blog. The reason was that the video was made for a challenge to win a years worth of Josie Maran hot oil treatment.
This past month, MyGlam advertised that they were giving out 200 samples of the new Josie Maran Argan Self-Heating Oil Hair Treatment. I, of course, love trying new things and love making videos figured this would be a great challenge. The challenge required you make a quick, 2 minute or less, video with a hair tutorial and review of the oil.

After filming for about 30 minutes, and a lot of outtakes, I managed to crop the heck out of it and get it down to 1:56. Submitted it as soon as it was done. I had to post it on YouTube or Facebook in order to enter, and YouTube surprisingly uploads faster. Crazy huh? If you upload to YT regularly, you know it is a mission, it always takes forever, but FB is 3 times slower. FAIL.

Either way, the video is up, and I would love your support.

    Please Support

    Go and visit:

There is no voting at this moment, but I think they track views and likes. After the 27th, they will go through and pick 5 finalists. At that point, the finalist will be selected and the Grand Prize will be selected by community voting, so please keep your eye out. I'll of course let you know on Facebook and Twitter. Winner will be announced August 1st! Even if I don't win, I would be ecstatic if I could get top 5. We'll see.

    Fingers crossed.

You can also view the video on YouTube, but it would be better if you view it through the link above! Thank you all for your support!

    ♥MyGlam | July 2012 Product Review♥

Immediately after receiving my MyGlam bag and making my video, I immediately started using the products. I also plan on doing the JulyGlamBag Challenge for this month, which gives the lucky winner full sized products. So, keep your eyes out for that!

If you're interested in this review, please read on...

    July 2012 MyGlam

     July MyGlam Makeup Bag

I really like the makeup bag this month. I think it is really cute, and much better quality than the bags in the past. The only concern is that the zipper is a little weak, so don't tug too hard. You might break it.

Juice Beauty Green Apple SPF 15 Moisturizer

First, this moisturizer does NOT smell like green apple. I love the smell of green apple, but this smells like ginger, and if you read my review on the Birchbox, you know I don't like ginger. Bleh.

Second, it is very thick. It does not spread well. The first time I used it, I didn't know this fact, so my skin ended up getting really red from trying to spread this stuff out, from rubbing my cheeks raw. :(

Otherwise, it sits ok under makeup, once you manage to apply it properly, but I felt like I had to use a ton in order to get it all over my face. I definitely would NOT recommend this product.

    NuMe HydroPunch Hydrating Conditioner

I have never used NuMe before, so I really didn't have an opinion going into this. I was neither excited or disappointed. Now that I've tried the product.... I'm disappointed.

This product smells like medicated cream, like the stuff I used to use when I had bad eczema. I get it, when I had eczema, I had to just deal with the smell, but this is my hair. I shouldn't have to smell that every time I flip my hair.

I used it this morning, and honestly, I feel like my hair is dry compared to how it is with my regular conditioner. So, with dry hair and medicated cream scent, I put some of the hair oil that I got from Birchbox. Smells much better and much more hydrated now, but definitely would NOT recommend this conditioner.

Yes To Cucumbers On-The-Go Facial Towelettes

I love makeup remover towelettes. I use Neutrogena right now, but I'm thinking of switching after trying this out. Not only does it have a nice clean scent, but it doesn't leave behind any residue or smells. It's very nice! I really like this. Also, it is a large sample size, with plenty of wipes to try!

Buxum Big & Healthy Lip Polish in Leslie

This is my favorite item in the bag. I love Buxum lip gloss. I have a few minis that I got from Sephora, and this is amazing! Leslie is a pink shade with peach shimmers in it, so it comes off a bit more peach than pink, but it is quite pretty and again, I love Buxum, so I already knew I'd like this!

Circus by Andrea's Choice in Sommersault

This is my next favorite. Any free polish is going to be at the top of my list. It is very opaque and very vibrant. I've seen so many swatches and reviews on yellow polish and many of them are sheer and require multiple coats, but this is opaque right off the back! LOVE THAT! Can't wait till the rest of her line goes on sale!

    OVERALL REVIEW

Overall, I like this bag. The bag, wipes, lip gloss and nail polish were worth more than the $10 this entire thing cost. I was really impressed with this bag. This is now my 3rd month and I am very impressed. Love it!

♥Nail Tutorial | Pink and Melon Saran Wrap Nails + Flower Stamp♥

A few weeks back, for the 4th of July, I had done a very quick saran wrap nail design on my toes that I had seen on Nailed It! I really liked it and wanted to do it again for my hands. As mentioned before, I learned the technique from another nail blogger, Nailed It.

I didn't want to just do a saran wrap nail, even though it is pretty on its own, so I went ahead and added some stamping designs.

If you guys do this nail tutorial, please share it with me on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. I love seeing what colors and patterns you guys choose to mix and match!

    Hope you enjoy!

      ♥Birchbox | July 2012 Product Review♥

So... it has a few days since I've gotten my Birchbox, and wanted to give you guys some feedback on the products. Hopefully this will not only give you an idea of what comes in the box, and the type of products they provide, but also, some feedback on each specific product.

Also, I apologize up front for the 'not so great' pictures. I took them in a hurry with my cell phone, with flash, so there is a lot of reflection and weird lighting.

      July 2012 Birchbox Product Review

       Alterna | Bamboo UV+ Color Protection Fade-Proof Fluide ($24)

So... I have colored hair, box colored hair, but I'm not over complicated when it comes to hair color, so this type of product isn't something I would typically buy. That being said, I am probably the worst to provide a good review on this product. This is the least used product of the 4 main items that I received.

It has a light citrus scent, which is quite nice, but I really don't notice a difference. It has a nozzel that made me believe it was going to come out like foam, like those foam soap dispensers, but it is an oil. I have used it a few times now, and other than helping with my fly aways and a slight increase in moisture, I really don't see the benefit to this product. Again, probably the worst person to review this.

Eyeko | Skinny Liquid Eyeliner ($15)

This is my favorite product of this months box. My current favorite is the Stila Waterproof Stay-All Day Liquid Eyeliner. Stila is still my #1, but this is definitely up there in comparison. The Stila liner is $20 and the full size for this is $15, so it's slightly less expensive.

I love the pigmentation and its staying power! I put it on in the morning and it stays on all day long, with no smudging or fading.

I would consider replacing my Stila for it since it is $5 less, but I'm not sold on the felt tip. I feel that the tip is quite large and long, which for me personally, makes it a bit harder for me to be precise with my lines, while the Stila has a shorter, thinnger felt tip. The tip on the Eyeko is stiffer than the Stila tip, but even then, I feel like I can get more product on in one swipe with the Stila, while I have to go back over a few times with the Eyeko to get my desired line. If you look at the picture above, you can see the difference in tips. You can also see that the Stila liner is much darker and fills in much better than the Eyeko.

Either way, I'm loving it and using it everyday (to conserve my Stila for days when I need waterproof liner).

      Harvey Prince | Hello ($26-$55)

Up front, I love sweet or fruity scents.... Also, I'm not good at describing perfumes, but I would say this is a clean citrus scent. It's not overpowering, and it's mild enough that you could wear it on a daily basis without people thinking you were trying to hide something. lol. I have actually been wearing it everyday.

Like I said, it's not overpowering, and it's very clean. I don't believe it is something I would purchase, but I could see it being a very popular scent. Again, I love sweet and fruity... or sultry.

Supergoop! | City Sunscreen Serum ($20-$42)

This is probably #2 out of my likes from this box, which doesn't say much considering I'm not sold on it. I like it because it has SPF, but really, that's the only thing I like about it. One packet lasted me 5 days straight! So I really had the chance to try it out over a few days. I still have the other foil packet, so I can continue to use it if I'd like.

I'm glad it lasted a while, because I really wanted to see how it was under my makeup over time and so far, so good. It sits well under my makeup, it doesn't dry me out or make me oily and I have yet to see it breaks me out, so it's definitely a great alternative to regular moisturizer.

Now, for the reasons why I'm not sold... I have had Clinique moisturizers with SPF in them and they worked wonderful, and never had a sunscreen scent. This, however, smells like I'm rubbing Banana Boat or Coppertone onto my face, but without all the oil or stickiness. YUCK!

The second reason... it truly is goop. It has a goopy texture. Almost like a hot melted sunscreen that you left if your car. You know when you have a fresh hot pizza with fresh mozzerella and the cheese is stringy when you grab a slice?! I know you're wondering, what does pizza have to do with face moisturizer... well... when I squeezed the product out of the foil packet, it was stringy, like fresh baked mozzerella cheese and was getting all over the place. Not only that, but it doesn't spread well. Where you place it is where it will be. so I had to place multiple little dots all over the place. I couldn't just put one dot per cheek and rub it around, because it wouldn't spread and I ended up having a ton on the center on my cheek, but none at the edge of my face/hairline. SAD FACE!

However, the concept of it seemed ok. It looks like it's more affordable than Clinique, but I think you'll have a better chance with Neutrogena face sunscreen. The only down side to Neutrogena is that I feel like I need to wear an additional, regular moisturizer with it, as it's not very moisturizing. This, however, you can wear alone without additional moisturizer. Either way, there are more options, and this one is not one of mine.

Tea Forte | minteas in Lemongrass Yuzu (3 tins for $9.95)

If you like lemongrass and mint, as well as green tea, you'll like these mints. The mix of mint and lemongrass almost give off a ginger-like flavor. I had a few of my coworkers try it as well and they all agreed that ginger was their first guess as to what the flavor was, and only the true purists who drink lemongrass regularly could identify that as the flavor. That being said, I hated it. They smell refreshing and relaxing, but I do not like lemongrass or ginger, so it was a major fail.

Luckily,  I have a coworker who's all about lemongrass, and gave them away! At least they didn't go to waste!

      Birchbox Exclusive | Earbuds

So I took these to work thinking they would be a cute little accessory. I didn't really need them as I've already got a pink pair of Sony earbuds at my desk, but I loved the bright colors.

Going to be honest, that's the only thing good about these earbuds. They are awful! They are not only cheaply put together, but they feel flimsy as I was removing them from the cardboard. I unplugged my cheap $15 Sony earbuds and put these guys on to give them a try, but the audio that I was just listening to was barely coming in and almost sounded like a bad echo. They were uncomfortable and the plastic is very cheap.

The only positive is that they were not one of the main items of the box, so really, no loss to me, but still a bummer that they stuck a subpar item in the box. I would rather get less items that are awesome, then more items that aren't the greatest. It was a very creative jesture, but a fail in opinion. Just my two cents!

      OVERALL REVIEW

For this month, the eye liner was really the only thing I enjoyed. Even though the rest of the box was kind of a disappointment, I will, however, continue to subscribe, as it is only $10, and the eyeliner was worth the $10.

I also did mention last month that I have really been liking MyGlam over Birchbox, and so far I still feel that way. I haven't gotten the July MyGlam yet, but it is on its way. You'll know when I get it, as I will be posting a video as soon as I receive it. MyGlam has posted a video regarding their new bag on their YouTube and I look forward to getting it. If anything changes, I will of course, let you know!

Please keep in touch! Follow me on Twitter and Instagram, like my Facebook, and follow my blog! Would love if you would hit the Follow button to the right or add me to your list of blogs on BlogLovin'!

♥Nail Tutorial | How To Remove Glitter Polish♥

Pink & Glitter Striping Tape Nail Design + July JulepMaven Review

      Welcome back!

So I finally got the chance to test out the Julep polishes I received in my latest July Box. My original nail design was using Lynn and Yumi, but Lynn turned out to be to closely similar to my skin color, so I decided to retire the polish.

The nail design used below was done using Julep Yumi and China Glaze Princess Grace with a pink/magenta striping tape. I had filmed this using our new camcorder, but apparently, I didn't know what I was doing. I've now readjusted the camcorder, but too late for this design. So for this, I only have pictures, no video.

This was first time using striping tape. Was much harder than it looks. I'll need to practice a bit more. I have no idea how those other nail artists make it look so perfect.

Pink & Glitter with Striping Tape

      POLISH REVIEW

      • Lynn, nude blush pearl.
      • Yumi, pink opalescent multi-dimensional glitter.
      • Peony, nude blush creme lip vernis.
      • JULY BONUS! America-The Beautiful, shiny red with royal blue glitter and sterling silver stars, it's like nail art in a bottle.
As far as the items that came in my box, overall, I am very pleased. I love both of the glitter polishes. In fact, the America polish has mini stars in the polish, which was quite a happy surprise. And as you can see above, Yumi is a very pretty light pink glitter.

As for Lynn.... as you read above, it is not good for me. It matches my skin color too closely and just makes my nails look dirty. Unfortunate for me, but I imagine it's really cute on others. I did notice that Lynn is much more sheer than the other colors I have, and requires two coats. The other Julep polishes I have only require one coat. Something to consider.

As for the Peony Lip Gloss.... I LOVE IT! The brush is fantastic and the color is perfect. Love bubble gum pink colors, and this goes on very light pink! Adore it!

BaByliss Pro - Porcelain Plate Ceramic Flat Iron 1" Review

      Hi Everyone!

If you follow me on Facebook, you saw about 3 weeks ago, maybe even a month ago, that I had purchased a new flat iron from Amazon.com.

I had promised a review and a tutorial, but I have been having issues getting the right lighting to video my hair in our master bathroom, so I gave up on that for now. That being said, I didn't want to hold out for the review I promised.

Hope this helps in deciding if this flat iron is the one for you!

BaByliss Pro - Porcelain Plate Ceramic Flat Iron 1"

      Why This Flat Iron?

If you've seen my hair "Wavy Curls Hair Tutorial" video and blog post, you know I already own a BaByliss Pro styling tool. I originally discovered this brand from my favorite YouTubers. They had one of the tourmaline curling irons, but I didn't feel it was necessary to pay $150 for a curling iron so I stayed with the same brand, but bought a lesser expensive collection (again, on Amazon.com).

I fell in love with it immediately. The BEST curling iron I've ever used. I've used quite a few from Chi to Hot Tools to Conair; some I owned, others I've borrowed from friends. This was the first curling iron I'd had that didn't singe my hair on the highest heat setting, and actually made curls that lasted throughout the day. Of course, without hair spray, it would fall as the day went on, but even slept on, my hair would still have waves and curls from the previous morning. Very impressive, considering my hair would have fallen completely flat with any other iron. Not only that, but my hair would remain shiny and soft! Something I could not say was the same with any other iron.

Long story short, I felt that if their curling iron could do this, and their flat irons are also as highly recommended, why not try the same line and the same brand.

      Flat Iron Design

This flat iron has a very simple power button along the side. It takes about 5 minutes to completely heat up. A little red light illuminates when it is on, so you know if its on or not. *I have mistakenly thought I turned it on, and realized I had not after I noticed the light was off* Like many other flat irons, this flat iron has multiple heat settings. The temperature selection on this mirror those on the curling iron. Minimum setting starts at 235 degrees, and the maximum at 450 degrees.
I used my curling iron at its highest setting, but for the flat iron, I only use it at 320 degrees, and for my bangs, I use it at 245. Because a flat iron provides more direct heat than a curling iron, I don't need it as high.
This flat iron has an 8-foot cord and swivels very nicely. As you can see in the picture below, there is a good clearance between the end of the flat iron and the rubber cord, allowing it to swivel with little to no friction. I have yet to have any issues of tangling or twisting of the cord.
The plates themselves are 4" in length and 1" in width. They do offer this flat iron in 1.5" and 2". I prefer the smaller width as it allows me to create tighter curls when I choose to curl with this. Since my hair has issues with curling, I prefer to curl with tighter curls, as they will fall and loosen throughout the day. The plates are also flush within the framing, which helps prevent snags. Another benefit of the plates are the rounded edges, which allows for easy gliding through your hair, which is critical for curling with a flat iron.

      Overall Opinion

Of all the flat irons I've owned, and those that I've borrowed, I LOVE this flat iron. It keeps my hair shiny and healthy without damaging my hair. The wide range of heat settings provides so many more options, which many flat irons do not heat up that high. It was affordable and of a high quality brand, versus spending $30 on a drug store brand. The design is sleek, and very well quality. It has a very sturdy feel compared to many of the drug store brands, which can feel poorly put together. It heats up very quickly and does not require a lot of pressure to close the plates over your hair.

      The ONE Flaw

There is one flaw though.... this flaw is not uncommon among many of the less expensive flat irons, but I've even seen this issue in expensive brands. Either way, it is still a flaw that I want to point out.

When clamped, there is a slight gap in between the plates. For me, this isn't a big deal since I tend to flat iron large sections of hair at a time, and during the curling, the angle at which my hair is being pulled through the flat iron is not impacted by this. However, if you flat iron very small sections of hair at a time, it may slide through without touching the plates unless you grasp the flat iron really firmly to create a tight seal, but that can get tiring after a while.
Something to consider if you want to look into this flat iron.

So, I hope this review helped and provided some insight into this flat iron. This flat iron has gotten a lot of positive reviews on Amazon.com and I can definitely see why!

Eventually, after I find some free time, and get the lighting situation figured out, I will do a tutorial on how I curl my hair using this flat iron.

If I missed something, or if you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I love seeing comments and questions. You can post them here, Facebook, Twitter, or even via email. I'm all ears!

      Thank you all for reading!!!
